Poor Tower is panicking. Is Accidental Manslaughter a thing?
That doesn't look like San Diego to me :)
Makes ya wonder sometimes.....
This was over a week ago
controller talked way too much.. short transmissions!
Nicely handled but c'mon its only lightening and has zero effect on the plane unless it blows a circuit breaker and gets into the avionics of flight control nav screens lol
If this is supposed to be out of NYC/JFK, why is it labeled SAN/San Diego in the video?
That poor PM. EIther scared 💩-less. Or needs some real radio help. On the VISUAL ILS 22L?? Amongst many others….
They don’t speak English, it’s required, but not enforced
How on Earth does a plane lose an emergency slide?
Those are in the fuselage for that door position. Panel came open.
@@justing42 Don’t they have to be activated? I’ve never heard of those things being deployed on their own for no reason. Very strange.
Slide not slight!!!
Fixed, thank you!
Quite easy mistakin KSAN for KJFK, happens all the time
And Manhattan for La Jolla.
Who among us hasn’t accidentally landed in San Diego when destined for JFK…
it lack a part at the end when airport guys detect something is hanging from the plane
What’s up with all these things coming off or aircraft recently?
He is sorry!
You drunk bro? KSAN?? That's clearly JFK lmao.... And what's an emergency slight?
😅This one is all over the place.
its the 1st of may in europe, everyone here is drunk
Thank you. Thought I was drunk.
SLIGHT? I'm guessing that is supposed to be SLIDE.
Title: Emergency slide* :)
hi --- think you hit the wrong airport
Hey!
@@REALATCchannel Think you hit the wrong airport on the map here
@@gregorymcarterdefinitely. KENNEDY lol
As someone who has used a toy radio, I can confirm that when the radio doesn't work, you can some times recieve take off clearances that were never given.
At least he wasn't late for the fly-in!
it pains me to see that ground track while hearing ATC ask him nonstop questions 😵💫 he literally said "I'm in clouds" and tower kept calling him! chill, my guy
RIP
I take it, that it must not be as easy as just stopping, and going into a hover then descending straight down very very slowly until you see ground, is that not possible?
You have to have visual reference to maintain a hover. It is even difficult to maintain a constant spot in a hover when you get down close to water in a large body because you don’t have the visual cues to tell you if you’re moving. Even in an ifr capable machine, there is an airspeed restriction for minimum airspeed in ifr conditions to stay stable.
@@jasonthomas8770 Ok, thanks, i just thought they could stay eyes locked onto a gauge and not even look outside and descend that way!
DEI?
Why is the radio so frizzy? The communications is not very good. The chatter is way too quick and difficult to understand.
Sorry, I don’t know the details, but these helicopter pilots who do these kind of flights in these type of helicopters, do they in general know how to fly instruments? Or most of them can usually fly in vmc? Thanks
A "Mayday" airplane and Dulles wouldn't give him their longest runway?
Why do these controllers not pass messages along to the next agency? How many times does a very busy pilot in a stressful situation, have to keep answering the same questions?!!
Way too much tower chatter for that pilot. When you hear the distress in his voice, just let the guy handle his business.
He’s panicking, his decision making isn’t at his best. There’s a balance for sure but he needs a lot of help to get himself out of the situation.
"I'm drowning here, and you're describing the water!" Melvin Udall in “As Good As It Gets”
1. If I were in the soup, the controller's constant peppering of comments and questions would only make the situation in the cockpit much worse. At some point the controller should have realized that this was an "inadvertent IMC" episode and backed off. On the other hand, saying that the ceiling at Jones Beach was 300 feet is good info. Also, hearing that the ceiling at Farmingdale was 1000 feet would be sweet music to my ears. 2. People are getting the mistaken impression that the helicopter had few instruments. I'll bet it had everything needed for flight in IMC (Instrument meteorological conditions). When the pilot was queried by the JFK tower controller, I'll bet in cooler conditions the pilot would have more clearly stated that He, himself had an instrument rating but that the aircraft was not certified for flight in instrument conditions. I'll venture a guess that most Bell 206BII helicopters were not certified for IFR flight because that is not the intended environment for the work they do. He might have also mentioned if his skills were IFR current or not. 3. Inadvertently entering instrument conditions will cause you to slow down. Sometimes waaayyyy down. It gets incrementally and profoundly more difficult to fly a helicopter solely by reference to the instruments as airspeed bleeds off. Just check out the helicopter crash of Kobe Bryant.
Yep that ATC added nothing but more stress onto that poor dude, that I can assure you! Way too much chatter and uneccessary questions while he was in distress looking for a place to land.
@Freq412 well said. I didn't read your comment before I replied to a different comment, but you are spot on. I don't understand why some people feel the need to comment or say something that they really don't know enough about??
I wouldn’t make comments about the radar. The older ones work just fine and if I don’t know how to extract data from it, I wouldn’t blame it for my lack of expertise.
What the hell is a though time?
Why do theses controllers not listen
Boeing’s fault
Why do you randomly capitalize words in your title
Another Schm*ck landed on the Taxway.... or was it Harrison Ford again? 😂
Painful to watch and listen.
I experienced no pain.
So it's OK to fly aircraft thru thunderstorms.... awesome... (as the pilot said)
but scarebus never faces the insane scrutiny BOEING does.
Very professional crew !
MODERN DIGITAL AVIONICS DOES NOT PLAY WELL WITH STATIC DISCHARGE. Everything you commentors and wannabe aviators are speaking of rhetorical from an era of ANALOG.....LONG AGO!
Unnecessary landing. They should've just tried SCE to AUX.
Don't forget that it's not just a technical decision, but a customer relations decision too. If the passengers became aware of the strike(s) as they occurred, there may be more incentive to return. Also, in this post-Boeing-doors-flying-off world, _abundance of caution_ may be the operative term.
@@TheRealScooterGuy Apollo 12 joke goes whoosh.
So much for lightning not striking twice...
I thought it was quite common for airplanes to be struck by lightning in the air, but I didn't expect them to choose to fly back to the airport because of it.
Sometimes there may be damage. Not likely to bring the aircraft down, but e.g. the loss of one of a set of two redundant instruments is reason to return for safety.
ATC was very economical with transmission....few words, simple instructions and questions, just let the crew deal with their situation
I been on planes at least 3 times hit by lightning, none returned
Great info bro!
I saw somewhere once that on average, a commercial aircraft will get hit by lighting once a year throughout its service. I dunno how true that is.
I saw somewhere once that there are black helicopters hovering our homes beaming thought control waves into our brains. Dunno how true that is either.
I don't really understand why there even are problems after a lightning strike, it should be a farrady cage, right? Except for maybe the radar cone in the front, but I doubt that's where the lightning stroke.
